Description:
Personnel: Reverend Horton Heat (vocals, guitar, ukulele); Jimbo Wallace (bass guitar, background vocals); Scott Churilla (drums, percussion, background vocals); Patrick Bentley (drums).
Focusing almost exclusively on the three albums Reverend Horton Heat cut for Interscope in the late 1990s, this 20th CENTURY MASTERS collection brings together 18 tracks of the Rev's amped-up psychobilly. While it skimps on classics from Heat's tenure at Sub Pop ("Bad Reputation" and "Wiggle Stick" are nowhere to be found), that doesn't mean the disc is a disappointment. On the contrary, there is enough balls-out sleazy rocking here to satisfy almost anyone.
Led by the ferocious guitar, yowling vocals, and witty songwriting of leader Jim Heath, the Heat mix together Western Swing, early rock & roll, and punk energy for some of the funnest music on either side of the Mason-Dixon line. So while THE BEST OF may be a bit misleading, it is still hard to go wrong with this excellent sampler.
