Description:
This diverse program of traditional Christmas and spiritual songs, filmed at the Papal seat of the Roman Catholic Church, brings the esteemed Natale in Vaticano (Christmas at the Vatican) concert tradition to television audiences outside Italy for the first time.
With the backdrop of the Vatican at the height of Christmas festivities, exquisite lighting and a cast of stellar performers, the program features the 120-piece Turin Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Renato Serio.
The annual Natale in Vaticano concerts are performed at the Aula Paolo VI theater at the Vatican.
The Natale in Vaticano is part of the benefit project, "50 Churches for Rome, Third Millennium," which raises funds to finance the social activities of the Catholic Church and, more specifically, to contribute to the building of 50 new churches in the poorer suburbs of Rome.
The artists are not paid for their performances -- it is a great honor to be included in the concert. The tradition includes a private audience with The Pope for all participants the day before the concert.
