Affluent and decidedly independent Jewish widow Miss Daisy begrudgingly agrees to hire a driver after reversing her brand-new car into the neighbours azalea bush.

At her son Boolies insistence Black Chauffeur Hoke, himself a widower, is employed. Warned of Daisys stubborn nature Hoke is undeterred, greeting bigotry with humour and absurdity with self-assured defiance.
