Whilst the name Umod may not be familiar to many, read it backwards and you realise this unique LP is from West London's DUMO, and forms part of the talented, mulit-aliased producer's forward/backward looking approach to music making. Released on Jazzanova's own Sonar Kollektiv label, you're assured of solid production and some warm jazzy influences. With Umod however, you also get the sum of his influences which take in hip hop, jungle, Detroit electro, Brazillian, jazz, funk and soul. The ten tracks here present an astonishing beat science that is Umod's alone. Having also recorded a 12inch for the Sonar label as Zoltar ('Story Of An Age / Wah Wah'), Umod's earlier single 'Tromboline / On The Down Low' and this new album, joins the man's growing discography under names like Sonar Circle, Bakura, Realsides, Rima, Yotoko and of course Domu for labels such as 2000Black, Archive, Cookin', Irma, Compost and Especial.
