Description:
Kidda AKA Ste McGregor has been making videos for Skint Records for the last decade, but ten years later he's releasing his own music for the label. Having previousy released on Catskills, Kidda has also done remixes for Pepe Deluxe, Parker, Fatboy Slim & the Beastie Boys. Going Up is a unique mix of Northern Soul, Electronica, Hip-Hop and Funk, that features The Beatnuts, Blak Twang, Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody and Lomax. ‘Under The Sun' is an early stand-out, picked up by Bacardi for their current ad, and boasts a killer loop taken from a version of ‘You're All I Need To Get By' sung by Nancy Wilson.
‘VIP' is a straight-up New York hip hop track a la DJ Premier, The Beatnuts and DITC, with Psycho Les from The Beatnuts delivering the party-hardy and Brighton's DJ Buckwilde providing the chunky cuts. ‘Good For You' is another chopped-up soul nugget that pinches from a James Carr tune. ‘Shining 1' is a glorious slice of drive-time heat for the album, given the Midas touch by Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody. And finally, ‘Smile'- representing the madness, variety and whole musical journey through which the album travels. The sample is ‘Loving Me, Loving You' by Sandra Wright, pitched up to take it away from the chilled soul vibe of the original, and building into a big-hearted soul loop. Destined to be a big hit with clubbers this summer, it's an unashamedly feel-good dance song. Check out the video for Smile, an animation that takes its inspiration from the film Napoleon Dynamite
