Description:
An entertaining collection of songs the Gibb brothers recorded in Australia between 1963-1967, prior to their international stardom. Interestingly, although they were well known in their homeland due to a TV show, none of the songs here (with the exception of "Spicks and Specks") were hits--in the '60s, it was the Easybeats who ruled Australia. The Gibb's trademark high harmonies and thick vibratos are already in place here, and the stylistically the music is a not-bad emulation of Beatles-style pop (the title tune), folk-rock ("Butterfly"), and early psychedelia ("I Want Home"). Not to be missed: "I Was a Lover, a Leader of Men," a song in which those macho (if rueful) sentiments are expressed in voices so high they can barely be heard by dogs.
