Description:
Listening to Honey Trap you can feel the music wrapping sensuous, but faintly disturbing tentacles around you. Honey Trap is the debut album from Brisbane-based masters of versatility "Bad Chameleon!" With sophisticated arrangements and intelligent lyrics this is not an album for listening to once. It's an abduction of the senses - every song entices the listener into a different lyrical and emotional experience. "Honey Trap is our little rage against sameness - give me variety or give me something else," says 'Bad Chameleon!' producer Ken Newman, " We didn't limit ourselves to any kind of standard rock band line up. We had access to great string, accordion, dige, harmonica and trumpet players just through the our own networks, so we thought right-oh, let's use 'em!" The band's name is a nudge at the dazzling range of musical styles covered on the album. With a deceptive ease that belies the musical complexity 'Honey Trap' manages to blend rock, klezmer, gospel choir, horror film score, latin, reggae, country ballad, and a'cappella influences. From the title track "Honey Trap", about seduction in the world of international espionage to the heart-felt simplicity of the father-daughter love song "I carried you home", this album is like a siren call to the soul bit destructive, bit seductive.
