I See Flowers, You See CarsStephenson, Jo Kelly
Description:
Melbourne based Jo Kelly Stephenson is one of those musicians whose path seemed destined to be. Growing up in a highly musical family, her musical development has been a remarkable journey. She traveled to Melbourne at an early age in the back of a red kombi van wedged between a Simpson washing machine and a Fender Rhodes piano. Some of her fond memories include doing the live circuit with her family, and dancing at her father's late night gigs. She has music in her blood. These memories have paved the way for the award winning guitarist, keyboardist, singer/songwriter, to culminate in the release of I See Flowers, You See Cars. With Jo Kelly's rich musical history and acknowledged talent, it's not surprising that this album was nominated as one of four finalists for 'Alternative Country Album of the Year' 2008 - American Independent Music Awards (IMA). Mike Rudd, Bill Putt and Peter 'Robbo' Robertson, from legendary Australian band Spectrum, expressed their admiration and faith in Jo Kelly Stephenson's songs by performing on this album, along with Ken Stephenson as co-producer. Jo currently works with a similar live line up performing a combination of roots music with hints of blues, jazz, R&B and pop/rock. All of these genres are represented strongly on I See Flowers, You See Cars. 'Deep End' - which received second place (INTERNATIONAL category) at the Australian Songwriters Association 2007 awards - presents us with a swampy blues number evocative of the outback. At the same awards, Jo Kelly received another second place for the sweet, positive song of self realization: 'Just Fine'. 'Fruitless Love' brings in the jazzy undertones to I See Flowers, You See Cars, in a tale of a frustrating love. 'City Of Illusion' is an honest, heartfelt, dreamy pop song. I See Flowers, You See Cars is optimistic and encouraging. It feels like an invigorating, fresh breeze coming through the window, reminding us to relish life. Track Listing:
