First formed to accompany rockabilly great Ronnie Hawkins, they became Bob Dylan's backing group in the mid-'60s before embarking on their own now-legendary "solo" course. The Band made ageless, unforgettable roots-based music, and when they called it quits with a farewell gala at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom on Thanksgiving Day in 1976, they made history. Famously captured on film by Martin Scorsese, the show's audio recording resulted in one of the greatest concert albums of all time.
