The 3rd birthday of Mike Patton and Greg Werckman's Ipecac Recordings, is celebrated courtesy of the Fantomas Melvins Big Band - the meeting of two major musical masters, Fantômas, Patton's death metal/cartoon music brainchild, and the Melvins, Ipecac's infamous post-punk hard hittin' rock trio.
Recorded live on- you guessed it- the Millenium New Years Eve, at one of their infamous mental NYE gigs, MILLENNIUM MONSTERWORK 2000 is the rock squad facing off in an awesome, earth-shaking, bone-chilling fight to the finish and not a soul's left standing to cry about it.
Fantômas (Mike Patton, Buzz Osborne, Dave Lombardo, Trevor Dunn) released their self-titled debut on Ipecac Recordings in the spring of 1999. They have successfully toured around the world in front of confused, but mostly happy crowds. The Director's Cut, released in 2001, is a now-classic collection of soundtrack covers given the 'special' Fantômas touch- all the Hollywood cinema favourites gutted, slayed, butchered and shaped nicely back together.
Now add the Melvins (King Buzzo, Dale Crover & Kevin Rutmanis) into the equation. 16 bone jarring albums later and sitting high on life with their grinding new album, Hostile Ambient Takeover, the Godfathers of Grunge, serve up the best explosive wonder of schizophrenic hard rock you ever heard- with a twist of lemon on the side.
The result is one helluva of a god damn noise sensational show down. Don't sleep on this one. The two greatest destroyers of rock mediocrity coming together live for a major ass kicking? Just admit it.you know you've been waiting for one.
