Since their first song hit the web in 2008, the duo of TANLINES (Eric Emm and Jesse Cohen) have been steadily releasing genius dance singles with tastemaker labels across the globe, including TRUE PANTHER SOUNDS, YOUNG TURKS and KITSUNE. The pair began making music together almost on a lark, deciding one night to remix a song for the band TELEPATHE (with whom Eric was working at the time) and put it on the internet that same evening for no reason beyond simply doing so. Suddenly, the song was making rounds on the web and being championed by various tastemakers. Their second song, “New Flowers”, written for one of Jesse’s friends’ art projects, had the same reaction, resulting in excellent UK label Young Turks (THE XX, SBTRKT) emailing the band to release a single in 2009. Effortlessly cool Parisian label Kitsune released a Tanlines track, while True Panther released the Tanlines’ first EP in 2010. The band have now moved out of the studio and onstage, playing with VAMPIRE WEEKEND, THE XX, JULIAN CASABLANCAS, RICK ROSS and DELOREAN.

‘Mixed Emotions’ was recorded in a series of locations with legendary engineer Jimmy Douglass (TIMBALAND, AALIYAH, TELEVISION, MISSY ELLIOT) mixed the album in Miami. The result fuses the music of the band’s childhood (NEW ORDER, THE KLF, STOCK AITKEN WATERMAN, STEVE WINWOOD) with pristine synthetic sounds and their own homespun organic ones. ‘Mixed Emotions’ is Tanlines at their most human, compelling and classic.
