Monument

The Melbourne three-piece's third album is, like any good monument, a fitting testament to its creators and their ambitions. Here, it's of a raw and lean musical atmosphere littered with the bones of post-punk, Krautrock and pop, interwoven with the usual esoteric lyrical fantasies of Children Collide. Murky psychedelia mixes with an almost-synethesic colouring, while jarring riffs nestle against frontman Johnny Mackay's most personal insights yet. Lashes of kaleidoscopic reverb and echo drip from the pores of the album, with Crawley's bass and Caesar's drums providing a muscular and often-time melodic drive behind everything.
