Description:
Soon after the release of The Prodigy's debut album ‘Experience’ the rave scene turned sour. Anti-noise measures were placed on legal raves and government legislations were put in place to kill the party vibe forever. The simple act of dancing in a field to a loud system would become a criminal act. The prodigy became figureheads for this politicisation when they released their second album ‘Music For The Jilted Generation’ in 1994. This album was a far more assured, experimental and eclectic journey. No longer was The Prodigy was the part of any particular scene. They had transcended any limitations imposed by particular genres. The subsequent range of styles, tempos and flavours was breathtaking. From the darkly brooding “Break And Enter” to the hard and fast techno metal of “Their Law” the album displayed the group’s abilities to be far reaching.

‘Music For The Jilted Generation’ entered the UK chart at #1 and remained in the Top 20 for four months after its release, going gold after only two weeks. It was at this point the most successful underground album of all time and was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. The album remains the blueprint for dance acts with a taste of rock and rock acts with a love of electronic music. It has inspired everyone from The Chemical Brothers to The Beastie Boys, Oasis to Gorillaz. Jay -Z, Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Pendulum and The Klaxons all call themselves fans of this groundbreaking album. This 2008 version comes complete with live tracks from the band’s excellent Zane Lowe set for Radio 1 in 2006 alongside rare mixes and overlooked tracks. It is in every way the perfect version of one of the greatest albums to have emerged from the UK. It is as astonishing today as the day it first hit the streets - it is time to rediscover The Prodigy!
