Description:
Salsa and dance music lovers prepare to move and be moved by Truco y Zaperoko's new album MUSICA UNIVERSAL released by Libertad Entertainment, a new Latin record label, marketed and distributed by Rykodisc International. Prepared with a satisfying mix of salsa, plena, rumba and guaganco, this album serves a full course of energetic music and infectious rhythms. Truco y Zaperoko is a fusion of two bands (Truco and Zaperoko) and have segued that union into their music to create a blend of folkloric traditions with progressive sounds that break musical boundaries. Percussionist Héctor Valentín founded Los Pleneros de Truco in 1981. Their repertoire consisted of the traditional sounds of the Puerto Rican plena, which features an instrumentation of guiro, accordion and the hand-held frame drums, known as the panderos. The Pleneros have recorded three albums of their own and have recorded with such giants as vocalist Danny Rivera and Juan Luis Guerra. Founded by Edwin Feliciano and the late singer Frankie Rodríguez, Zaperoko burst upon Puerto Rico's vibrant musical scene with their debut recording COSA DE LOCOS in 1983. Strongly influenced by a variety of music, from the experimental sounds of Los Van Van from Cuba, to New York legendary pianist Eddie Palmieri and the master of Afro-Puerto Rican rhythms Rafael Cortijo, Zaperoko moved quickly to the head of the class as one of Puerto Rico's most progressive ensembles.
MUSICA UNIVERSAL brings us 10 vibrant tracks that will illicit non-stop motion with contrasting rhythms and influences of the Spanish-speaking Caribbean with Cuban rumba, guaguancó and songo. The album features a cross-section of extraordinary compositions from all over the Latin world and encapsulates the spirit of integration that has always been at the core of their concept as a band.
