Damien Rice was born on the outskirts of Dublin in the early seventies and grew up in Celbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland. He spent much of his childhood down by the River Liffey fishing. Hours of catching left plenty of time for thinking.

Damien moved to Tuscany in March 1999 before going on to travel around Europe, busking the streets. Arriving back in Dublin a year later, loaded with ideas and a clear head, he began to approach his music with a new found freshness and decided to put some songs down.

Rice's debut album, 'O', brims with swelling string sections and unrequited longing. Self-released and self-recorded, the album has garnered glowing reviews from the U.K. press for its absorbing melodies and emotional wallop. Comparisons to David Gray and Jeff Buckley have been made, and there is a passing resemblance to Sixties folk singer Donovan.

'O' is now at triple platinum status in Ireland. He also received three nominations in the Meteor Ireland Music Awards, and has been recognized in the Hot Press Reader's Poll for the 'Best Album' as well as placing top five for 'Best Male Singer', 'Best Live Act', 'Best Songwriter' and 'Best Single'. In the United States, Rice played at the CMJ Festival, the prestigious Sundance Festival, and at sold-out concerts in Los Angeles. Following a triumphant Glastonbury appearance sales of 'O' leapt a massive 1000% in the UK

The first track to radio will be 'Volcano' which sums up Damien's gentle appeal and emotional intensity; where strings nestle down with acoustic guitars and Rice shares the limelight with singing soulmate Lisa Hannigan.
