To commemorate the 30th anniversary of this classic, EMI Music is re-issuing Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon on the Super Audio CD (SACD) format. This is much more than an ordinary CD - it's actually a Super Audio CD (SACD) that features two disc layers. One layer contains a standard version of the album that works on any CD player. The other layer includes high-resolution stereo and a 5.1 surround version of the recording that works on SACD compatible DVD players and home theatre systems. Both layers employ SACD's Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding process that samples the music 64 times faster than CD for unprecedented fidelity. To create this first surround mix of The Dark Side Of The Moon, longtime Pink Floyd producer/engineer James Guthrie utilised the 16-track master tapes from the original recording sessions. The new 5.1 surround mix was then remastered on custom-built electronics before the final transfer to SACD. The results are stunning, retaining the warmth and "air" of the original analog tapes while faithfully capturing the full dynamic range of Pink Floyd's intricately layered music. Long time Pink Floyd producer/engineer James Guthrie created the 5.1 surround sound mix from the original 16-track session master tapes.
