Description:
Birchville Cat Motel is New Zealand's Campbell Kneale, an abstract impressionist working in sound rather than paint. For his palette, he employs a riot of processed and condensed guitar, recorder, vocal, and percussive noises. Like a Jackson Pollock of the inner mind's eye, Kneale composes abstractions of sensation.
On SIBERIAN EARTH CURVE, Kneale's galaxies of tempered feedback and fluctuating drone capture the sensations of falling, floating, drowning, and suffocating with dizzying acuity. The swelling overload of "Fake Fur Pond" will leave you gasping, and "Siberian Earth Curve" generates a powerful sonic undertow, while "Lux" will simply flood your senses. "Trinity High Water Mark" is the sound of confusion--sirens and screaming guitar feedback combining in a caterwauling chorus; as you may have gathered, Kneale's music has a potently psychedelic effect.
