Though a significant amount of time passed between the film's premiere and the release of this disc, STORYTELLING is the soundtrack that cult heroes Belle & Sebastian created to accompany Todd Solondz's controversial film of the same title. Though all the music is by the group, this isn't exactly a proper B&S album, the bulk of the selections are instrumentals, intercut with snatches of dialogue from the film. That said, those instrumentals bear the kind of quiet grace and intimate beauty that the band's fans have come to expect; elegant little chamber-pop pieces with just the right blend of beauty and naturalism. The new songs written for the project have wit and melody aplenty, again a B&S trademark.
