A recent Pitchfork Media (hipster U.S. tastemaker website) absolutely raved about the single 'The Power is On': "I don't often play the "sounds like nothing I've ever heard" card, due to both its potential for overstatement and the complete disbelief I experience when passing over the phrase in others' reviews. But while The Go! Team's "The Power Is On" draws its inspiration from the late-70s Brooklyn hip-hop vanguard, early-80s prime-time theme music, and the sunshine funk of Jackson 5 and Sly & The Family Stone, the combination of these elements results in a track so ridiculously unique that for me to state otherwise would be a terrible, fat, hideous lie."a thrillingly raw slab of nostalgic, fist-pumping, awesome glee that makes a drive to the supermarket seem like The French Connection. "

What does it sound like to us? How about kids who spent plenty of time skiving off from school watching The Rockford Files and Streets Of San Francisco and rightly thinking that the music was the coolest in the world, and then forming a band to play it live. Throw in the theme from 'Snoopy', conjure up an image of a double dutch skipping contest at a 70s block party in NY City on a sweltering summer day (like that scene in the opening credits of Sesame Street) and you're getting there. The Avalanches is an act that has regularly come up when trying to describe The Go! Team, but that only scratches the surface.
