Description:
Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy may be the two most famous Irish musicians in history. This 1970s recording documents several Irish classics and even a few tunes written by Makem and Clancy themselves which have become classics in their own right. The deep voice of Tommy Makem and the lighter toned singing of Liam Clancy blend well together on this eleven song disc. We hear this best on "Bower Madden (Off to California)," "The Newry Highwayman" and the lovely yet forlorn melody of "The Parting Song (Journey's End)."
Generally upbeat and highly poetic, this music captures the true spirit of Ireland and its culture. J.B. Goodenough's poem, "White Swans and Black" adds the final brushstrokes of Irish romanticism to this release. Joined by a host of traditional Irish musicians, TWO FOR THE EARLY DEW is a very memorable collaboration.
