A collection of operatic arias by this consummate artist, Verismo was recorded in 1979. It is one of Pavarotti's twelve original studio albums made during the course of his unparalleled career.

Fifteen arias showcase the marked influence the late 19th century verismo artistic movement had on grand opera. Many of the great turn of the century opera composers are represented on this disc including Puccini (Manon Lescaut), Mascagni (Iris), Massenet (Werther) and Boito (Mefistofele).

Oliviero de Fabrittis conducts the National Philharmonic Orchestra throughout except for one track, Andrea Chénier's Sì, fui soldato conducted by Riccardo Chailly.
