Description:

The Clovers are as advertised, the guys who put the ‘Doo Wop' back in 1950 when their first recording, ‘Don't You Know I Love You' sold 1 million copies. The Clovers can boast about their record albums, and numerous hit singles, with sales in the millions. Their signature song, ‘Love Potion Number Nine' has been heard all over the world.

 

Considered one of the first rhythm and blues groups to cross over into rock and roll, the Clovers were certainly central in forming both styles of music. Their easily identifiable sound was based on a combination of blues and gospel. The Clovers did not follow the ‘pop' singing style of the Mills Brother or the Ink Spots and sounded distinctly different from the Orioles and the Larks, rhythm and blue's first role models.

 

Few rhythm and blues groups in this period could claim the popularity and longevity of the Clovers. This collection of rarities from their Winley Records recording captures the magic of the Clovers. These songs were originally released on vinyl 45's and have been remastered for this release. This package also contains four additional bonus songs previously available on 45 only.
