This book is hilairious, a witty, wise woman [...]
The funniest and smartest book I have read in years. I am a huge fan of Deveny's columns and was thrilled when I heard this book was out. It's even funnier than thought!!! Brave, hilarious, irreverant. Not for wusses or idiots. Conservative, insecure cardigan clutchers wont like it. But people who like their writing funny, fast and furious will. At [$] each I'll be giving them to EVERYONE for christmas.
This is a collection of columns that appeared in Melbourne's Age newspaper. I had never read any of her writing before (as I live in Perth) but a friend sent it over for my birthday and I loved it. If you like your politics left-leaning, your women whipsmart and your language fruity you'll really dig it. Catherine for PM!
I live in Northcote and I liked this book!
I have read all of Deveny's columns in The Age but enjoyed them even more the second time around. I cacked my dacks at her roasting of Sam Newman and punched the air when she wrote about private schools.
To be honest, I thought this book is terrible. A collection of ill-thought-out rants. Books such as this give the left a bad name. Deveney shows no tolerance or open-mindedness towards anyone outside her own insular suburb. Indeed she comes across as a bigot and xenophobe (in my opinion).
This book is utter rubbish. Deveney possesses no compassion, tolerance or talent for that matter. She gives the left a bad name. She is Xenophobic and insular. The age should be ashamed of employing her to spread hate.
